It is essential that anyone in pastoral or parish ministry have a robust theological framework to guide and shape their practice.

This unit situates ministry practice within the overarching theological categories of trinity, Christology, pneumatology, and covenant, asking how these classic Christian doctrines shape our understanding of the nature and mission of the church, and the kinds of concrete pastoral and ecclesial practices that are thereby generated. Such a framework is all the more important given our increasingly secular and ‘post-Christian’ context, if we are to retain distinctively Christian approaches to church and ministry, and to resist pressures to conform to market-oriented or cultural priorities.

Recent research on the twelve "minor prophets" shows that from an early stage they were read and circulated together as a “Book of the Twelve.” This unit will assess some of this research to determine its significance for reading and preaching the individual books today.

Not only will we explore key themes of the Twelve and the message of the collection, but we will also engage in-depth with some of the smaller books of the Twelve (Joel, Jonah, Haggai, Malachi), with a view to preaching and teaching these prophets today in various ministry settings.

This unit seeks to develop your skills in biblical exegesis, biblical theology, and contemporary application. It will involve (pre-) reading, lectures, lecture notes, student seminars, class discussion, and a variety of assessment tasks.

Medicine and biotechnology have enhanced and extended, even revolutionised our lives, and much of that is to be celebrated. But they also raise important questions and challenges that we need to address carefully, thoughtfully, and faithfully in light of our Christian faith.

In this unit we will explore ethical and theological frameworks and their application to medicine and biotechnology. It will enable you to come to grips with important issues relating to the beginning and end of life and all the stages in between: abortion and assisted reproductive technologies; genetics and human enhancement; euthanasia and end of life care; the nature of medicine and what its goals should be.
