Our evening classes are an opportunity to learn from experienced lecturers who will stretch, challenge and deepen your biblical knowledge and its practical application to your work, ministry and life, after hours, at a time that may suit you better. 

Why Evening Classes?

Evening classes are the perfect opportunity for those who work or are a primary caregiver during the day to attend on-campus classes - an opportunity to get to know God and His Word more deeply, meet with your peers and lecturers face to face and be better equipped for ministry.

  • strong support from qualified educators and access to the latest research and resources;
  • access to state-of-the-art teaching and learning facilities in the brand new Ministry & Learning Centre at our Macquarie Park or Perth Vose campus;
  • open pathways to further study that can lead towards accreditation as a Baptist Pastor or being equipped for other areas of ministry;
  • the opportunity to learn face-to-face in collaboration with other students.

    The units on this page are units of the Australian University of Theology (CRICOS 02650E). All our evening classes are also open to casual (non-award) enrolment for $440/semester.

This unit helps you share the gospel better, and more creatively. You’ll look at different models of evangelism, take them for a ‘test drive’, and then reflect on your experience.

This unit provides students with the opportunity to engage with the second half of the Old Testament, including the Prophetic books (Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel and The Twelve) and The Writings (Chronicles, Ezra and Nehemiah, Psalms, Daniel and Wisdom Literature).

On-Campus or Livestream – with Marc Rader

This is a one-semester overview of the New Testament. It looks at the four gospels and the portraits that they paint of the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus—with a focus on how Jesus inaugurated the Kingdom of God in word and deed. The unit also tells the story of the early New Testament Church as reflected in the book of Acts, as well as selected epistles and the book of Revelation. 

This unit is ideal for those taking a shorter course (i.e. the equivalent of one or two full-time semester) in combination with OT003 (Old Testament Overview).

On-Campus or Livestream – with Tim MacBride & David Starling

This unit attempts to demystify one of the most difficult to interpret books of the New Testament. It shows how this apocalypse was firmly grounded in the present of the original audience, bringing a message of hope and vindication to a marginalised minority of Jesus-followers - and how it can thus give us confidence that God is in control of our own present and future. Students will look at different interpretive approaches to the text, the Old Testament and Graeco-Roman background to Revelation’s famously bizarre imagery, and the way this text challenges its readers as to their ultimate allegiance.

This is the second foundational New Testament unit, following on from NT001 (Jesus and the Gospels). It provides an overview of the book of Acts, as well as six epistles and the book of Revelation. It focuses on the way in which the New Testament texts spoke into the lives and social situations of their original audience, guiding us in our understanding of how they still speak to us today.

This unit aims to equip students with skills and knowledge that will help them partner with God and others in the care of people. Integral to this unit is developing awareness of common and significant pastoral issues and growing in confidence to respond to the needs and life circumstances of people in a wide range of contexts. Students taking this unit will normally have completed a foundation level unit in Pastoral Care.

At the heart of this unit is our understanding that God calls us to partner with Him; inviting people to experience the love, grace, power and purpose found in Jesus Christ.

Wednesday, 6:30-9:15pm (Perth time)

This unit is part one of our two-unit theology overview.

In it we first consider how we can know God (‘Knowledge of God’) before using this ‘theological method’ to refine our understanding of both who God is (‘God’) and what He has initially done for us: His creation of the world (‘Creation’), its rebellion against Him (‘Sin’), and His subsequent redemption of it through the person and work of  Jesus Christ (‘Christ’).

This unit is part two of our two-unit theology overview.

In this unit we examine how God’s work of redemption plays out in individuals and in the life of the Christian community. We explore what salvation is and how it takes root in our lives (including the work of the Holy Spirit, regeneration, justification, sanctification, etc.). We explore the nature and mission of the church in the world, and the foundations of Christian hope as we ‘wait for and hasten’ the coming kingdom of God (2 Peter 3:12).

Wednesday 6:45-9:30pm (Sydney time)
On-Campus or Livestream – with Nicole Starling & Stephen Bray

In this unit we’ll be learning about the story of Christianity from the English Reformation to the present. We’ll learn about those who reinvigorated the church with their emphasis on personal devotion, and those who threw themselves into social activism and mission work - people like John Wesley, Catherine Booth and William Wilberforce. We’ll see how different denominations have emerged and influenced the way we practice our Christian faith today.
